MOM

It's been a year today since our dear mother was called to her
heavenly home- We love you and miss you, MOM....

APRIL 2011
 Kathy, Mom and Me

Our last good picture with mom- May 17th, 2011

I spent Friday evening through Sunday morning with my sisters.  We wanted to be together and we also had a task at hand.  We hadn't done anything with mom's possessions that were in her room at Bethel Home where she spent the last months of her 101 years.  As we sorted through mom's "things" we were reminded once again of all the stuff that we liked which had decorated our home and other items that were special to us- the Knutson family of six.

There was the delicately Norwegian carved wooden box and the precious little cardboard box covered with Christmas paper that dad, as a young lad had placed a penny and a paper flower in, and scrawled on the back "mama from Olaf".

There were oodles of earrings, and rings, and necklaces, and pins, and watches.  There were Wildrose History Books and the year book from Minot State.  There were many priceless photographs.  The beautiful carved picture of the Tolga Kirke in Norway that hung over mom's bed at the Nursing Home needed a new home, as well as the wedding portrait cutout of mom and dad.

It's all stuff that we cherished and will continue to cherish, but in the end, it's all just stuff.  What really mattered (and still matters) was the love that God blessed our family with, AND the faith and God's Grace that cemented us together as we grew up in a Christian home with a mom and dad who loved the Lord and who shared God's love with us.
We couldn't have asked for anything better!
Thank you God for Mom and Dad and thank you for my sisters!

We were finished with our task!
*************************
Following mom's funeral, a friend sent us a reading  "MOM IS ALWAYS WITH YOU".  Those words follow- I changed the words so they read in first person.
I think it's a wonderful verse that has our Mom in it!

MOM IS ALWAYS WITH US

Our mother is always with us. She's the whisper of the leaves as we walk down the street. She's the smell of certain foods we remember, flowers we pick, and perfume that she wore. She's the cool hand on our brow when we're not feeling well.

She's our breath in the air on a cold winter's day.

She is the sound of rain that lulls us to sleep and the colors of a rainbow. She is Christmas morning.

Our mother lives inside our laughter and she's crystallized in every tear drop.

Our mother showed every emotion.....happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, and sorrow and all the while, she was hoping and praying we would only know the good feelings in life.

She's the place we came from, our first home, and she's the map we follow with every step we take.

She was our first love, our first friend, even our first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate us........

not time, not space—not even death!
